Jim Morrison may not be the lead singer, but Rex Caton, Dan Rokjer and Bill Bozeman are putting together some professional music these days, even though all are 55 and over and have only been playing together a year.
They recently recorded a couple of songs with music producer Sonny Yambor. All are New Smyrna Beach residents.
The trio, who don’t have an official name yet, got together as a result of a shout out by Mr. Caton on a social media app, looking for anyone that wanted to play classic Southern rock, blues or “whatever.” Their first practice was in Mr. Rokjer’s garage. Thus, the temporary band name of Garage Doors. Now they practice weekly in the home of Mr. Caton, who now has a studio.
Mr. Caton, 58, is CEO of Caton Hosey Insurance of Port Orange. The singer and guitarist said, “I made (the studio) for my son (Dallas Caton), who is a music producer in LA. I wanted him to come back here as much as possible, so I created an environment for him to be able to come back and do his work.”
Dallas Caton has recently worked with Ciara and Joshua Bassett of High School Musical fame.
